Chandigarh, November 29:
A gold in judo and a bronze in canoeing were all Manipur could add to its tally on the penultimate day of the competitive section of the Punjab National Games today.
The gold was won by A Anita Devi who defeated Varti Godra of Punjab in the final of the 52 kg category event today at the Indoor Hall, Dasmesh Academy in Anandpur Sahib.
In Chandigarh, Manipur could bring in one more bronze from canoeing with Wahida Rahiman winning the third spot in the 2000 meters single scull event.
Although it is more than certain Manipur cannot climb further than its current third position in the medals tally, there is a good chance that it will win some more medals, possibly gold, on the final day of the competitive section of the games tomorrow.
In rowing, Manipur has entered the finals in four events, two men and two women.
All four are billed to be medal material and will make strong bids for the golds.
The finalists are M Surjit in the 200 meters race, M Surjit again with H Doren in the 200 meters pair, Sushila in the 200 meters, and again Sushila with Rita, Rameshwori and Niteshwor in the 200 meters team final.
Manipur's hope for a kayaking medal came to an end today with Y Manjuri pulling out because of an injury she received during a fall.
Handball: In women's handball, Manipur had a disappointment when it lost narrowly 20-21 to Chatishgarh today.
The team will be fighting out for the bronze medal with Kerara tomorrow.
